The National Historial Institute said that Martin Nievera owes an apology for his “pop” version of Lupang Hinirang during the Pacquiao-Hatton match last Sunday. The Traditionalists said that Our National Anthem is very "untouchable" it should be sang properly the way it should be. The liberals say it was very artistic and was not in any way disrespectful of our national dignity. However, Martin testified that he will never make any public apology because there's no way for him to say sorry for what he did. He also justify that Manny Pacquiao chose him and trusted him to sing the National Anthem for his fight.The elite group of artists who previously sang in Pacman’s bouts were Karylle, Kyla, Geneva Cruz, Jasmine Villegas, Ciara Sotto, Nicole Judalena and Regine Velasquez. This was first time that we heard a male voice sang our national song in Las Vegas’ boxing ring.

Ricky Hatton vs. Manny Pacquiao, also billed as The Battle of the East and West, was a boxing light welterweight superfight for the International Boxing Organization (IBO) and The Ring light welterweight (super lightweight) championship. The bout was held between Manny Pacquiao of General Santos, Philippines and Ricky Hatton from Manchester, United Kingdom. The superfight was held on May 2, 2009 at the MGM Grand Las Vegas at Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Hatton was knocked down by Pacquiao twice during the first round, and another time in the second round to lose via 2nd round KO.As support for the fight, HBO aired "Pacquiao/Hatton: 24/7" for two weeks prior to the fight on television and on the internet; it aired in the Philippines on GMA the night before the fight on May 2.

Martin Nievera was chosen to sing the National Anthem for the "Pacquiao Vs Hatton"s fight. Honestly if i am to choose between Martin Nievera and Lea Salongga, well i would rather choose Lea. Iam nothing against Martin, Its just that we all know that Lea once sang our National Anthem well. And Since It was Martin, I was just hoping that we will not hear any "slang" from him while sing our National Song knowing the fact thatMartin has his Natural Foreign accent and he got used to sing English songs. But then I know Martin will work hard for this upcoming events. Cheers!!
